Claims Position Reports To:
District Claims Manager General Definition Investigates, evaluates, and negotiates settlements of specific categories of claims (comp, coll, auto & fire lines property damage, unlimited med pay, small BI).
Contacts are made by telephone and by mail.
No questionable liability settlement on any line.
Special Training, Education, Knowledge, and Skills Required Four year college degree and/or business background.
Legal knowledge helpful; oral and written communication skills; ability to deal effectively with the public in stressful situations.
Maintain CE in compliance with N.
C.
Department of Insurance and N.
C.
Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company requirements.
Major Duties of Position Apply policy contract to reported losses.
Attempt contact with insured/claimant within 24 to 48 hours of receipt of loss notice.
Determine damages by using field adjuster, appraisers and others as necessary.
Establish reserves and keep them updated.
Determine legal liability and damages for losses.
Maintain detailed notes on adjustment of losses.
Dictate captioned reports on collateral files or as directed by DCM.
Work schedule is to be designated by the DCM.
Effect payment or denial of claims.
Assist DCM in claims operations.
Qualifications for Senior Office Adjuster Recommendation from the District Claim Manager and Regional Claim Manager.
Five years service as a Claims Representative, Field Adjuster, or Office Claims Representative with North Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company.
Satisfactory completion of all four (4) sections for the Associate in Claims (AIC) designation and INS 22 & 23 offered by the Insurance Institute of America.
Successfully pass tests on contracts written by the company.
Successfully pass tests on general claims knowledge and company background and organization information.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
